JOB- Chief Design Engineer


TERM- Permanent

SALARY- £55,000 - £70,000 per annum dependent on experience (please advise what you’re looking for)

My client designs and manufactures engineering equipment, and they are looking to take on a Chief Design Engineer on a permanent basis, in the Kent area.

The Chief Design Engineer will ideally have the following attributes:
  • HNC/ HND/ BTEC/ Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering
  • Have a strong Mechanical Engineering background – preferably with experience in the Automotive industry
  • Have experience of using SolidWorks or a similar CAD software and AutoCAD ideally
  • Previous experience of working in a Senior / Lead / hands on Managerial role would be beneficial
  • Be able to work on projects involving metal materials and also pneumatic/ hydraulic components
  • Have the ability to engage with and motivate a team of Designers
  • Have a methodical and practical approach to work
  • Any experience of working with SAP or other ERP / data integration systems is desirable
  • The ability to use Microsoft Office programmes
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Flexibility to travel internationally if required for business on occasion
The Chief Design Engineer role will involve:
  • Being responsible for the Design Team on a day to day basis and reporting to the overall Technical Manager
  • Driving forward upcoming projects in line with the agreed design briefs and timescales
  • Coordinating and also motivating the designers as well as being hands on with design work using SolidWorks too when required
  • Defining the structure of the team and highlighting any training needs
  • Supporting the Technical Manager with project planning/ cots sand budgets
  • Developing the team and improving products long term
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation and to ISO9001 standards
  • Liaising and maintaining relationships with other departments and providing technical assistance when required
  • Accompanying prototypes to external test houses
  • Visiting customer premises and also exhibitions when needed (this could be abroad)
  • Attending meetings to give technical input
