Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Job Type: Permanent

Location: Shropshire (commutable from Bridgnorth, Birmingham, Dudley, Kidderminster, Telford, Stafford, Walsall, Wolverhampton etc)

Salary: £38K - £44K plus benefits package

Premier Engineering has engaged with a key client and a leading manufacturer based in Shropshire where a new opportunity has risen for a Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join on a permanent basis.

Overall Job Purpose

Working for the company Mechanical Maintenance Department, the purpose of this role is to ensure uninterrupted operation of the assets by reducing unplanned downtime, equipment failures and breakdowns while ensuring all assets are maintained adequately to operate within their designed capabilities.

Hours of work

Flexi-time based around 8.00am-5.00pm. Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent should be aware that under special circumstances (e.g. breakdowns, outage periods, etc) longer working hours or working over weekends/holidays might be required to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the above role.

Maintenance Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for meeting the operational equipment reliability level for the area of responsibility
  • Coordinate with peers and colleagues in the engineering department to implement site wide maintenance strategy and improvements applying “Lessons Learnt” from other areas of the business
  • Assist in trouble shooting and resolving of technical problems/issues in order to get assets back in running condition aiming at minimising disruption and cost
  • Oversee maintenance or emergency repairs/inspections; ensure documentation of work completed is archived and recommendations or actions are followed up through to completion
  • Help investigate and resolve all Hydraulic, Pneumatic and Mechanical related issues in the area of responsibility
  • Oversee logging of the engineering supervisors’ & technicians’ tasks/ jobs onto the CMMS system alongside with relevant information
  • Assess departmental daily check list data to identify key asset and sub-asset parameters that are of concern and propose corrective actions/measures
  • Provide technical assistance, guidance and support to area maintenance supervisors
  • Evaluate conceptual engineering plans; review the designs and plan according to required specifications
  • Lead the chronic and recurring Failure Elimination/Root Cause Analysis (RCA) studies as required; in charge to implement, track and report the corrective actions with respect to its effectiveness in eliminating the problem(s)
  • Participate along with the maintenance team in the cold/hot commissioning and start up activities of assets and equipment
  • Ensure that data, drawings and documentation related to engineering maintenance from project contractor and vendors; review and check these are complete as per project/equipment contract specifications
  • Implement and review the planning of Reliability Centralised Maintenance (RCM) by assessing asset and sub-asset criticality rankings, performing failure analysis and recommending mitigation strategies
  • Oversee equipment critical spare parts’ identification; input in determining optimum quantity required on site (stores) and assist in raising stock request forms
  • Propose and justify CAPEX projects to improve equipment availability and resolve recurring problems; lead project review, supervision and implementation
  • Lead the consolidation of the maintenance budget and forecasting process
  • Responsible for the mechanical technicians’ operation of the workshop equipment
  • Oversee the workshop area, its equipment and current as well as future needs with respect to fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the mechanical maintenance role
  • Work with suppliers and contractors to organise emergency or planned repairs of assets/equipment in-house/in-situ or externally

Qualification - Essential to the Role

BEng in Mechanical Engineering

3-5 year of engineering experience in a similar position, field or industry

  • Being a Member or Associate Member of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) or an equivalent Professional Body
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering principles and practices demonstrated in a relevant industry in engineering and maintenance or reliability fields
  • Good working knowledge of engineering procedures and systems to fulfil the Maintenance Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ability to accurately compile, interpret and make use of data and other information to address engineering problems
  • Knowledgeable in the area of equipment lubricants and lubrication techniques
