Premier Engineering has engaged with a new client and an exciting leading specialist within high speed rotating equipment based in Warwickshire, who are looking to hire a Lead Mechanical Engineer for a permanent post.

Main Responsibilities

  • Organise and lead mechanical engineers to fulfil numerous tasks and projects.
  • Core engineer developing designs from concept through to production.
  • Creating CAD models and fully detailed engineering drawings using GD&T. Products include, but are not limited to:
  • High speed compressors
  • Enclosures for power electronics
  • Cooling structures
  • Testing hardware and jigs
  • Liaising with different departments and people within the business, as well as external suppliers.
  • Work with the Mechanical Team Leader to continue to build and develop the mechanical engineering team to fulfil the company's strategic road map.
  • Creation of BoMs (Bills of Materials)
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight to mechanical and junior engineers.
  • Ensure products are developed to achieve compliance with automotive standards (ISO/DIN).
  • Provide technical liaison and support for customers.
  • Contribute to the creation of functional specifications, DVP, FMEA.
  • Participate in problem solving processes, such as 8D.
  • Review and sign off reports, drawings, designs and calculations.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in functionality and manufacture.

Qualifications and Experience

    • Degree/HNC in Automotive, Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering or related discipline preferred.
    • Proven experience of developing electro-mechanical components within the automotive sector or similar.
    • Good understanding of solid body dynamics, structures and materials, heat transfer and fluid dynamics and common manufacturing methods.
    • Excellent 3D CAD modelling knowledge – Solids & Surfacing (Solidworks desirable) and GD&T.
    • Desirable: Computational Fluid Dynamics (Solidworks Flow Simulation).
    • Desirable: Experience of Motor design and/or electro mechanical variables & enclosures.
    • Experience of DFM/DFA.
    • Excellent communication skills within multi-disciplinary team and with external customers.
    • Self-starter, able to prioritise and plan effectively.
    • Bolted joint, O-ring calculations & tolerance stack ups
    • Previous experience in leading a small engineering team.
    • Proven track record in delivering a project from concept to production – desirable.
    • Excellent problem solving skills, attention to detail and a creative approach for new ideas.
    • Confident in use of basic workshop tools and processes
