Job Title: Head of Design
Location: Wakefield
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 per annum
Type: Permanent
We are currently seeking a Head of Design to join a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Wakefield. This is a senior leadership opportunity to take ownership of an established design function within a company delivering high-value engineered products into industrial markets.
The business has experienced significant growth in recent years and is now looking for a strong technical leader to provide direction, structure, and cohesion across the design team while supporting continued expansion.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and develop a small team of design engineers.
- Oversee the design and delivery of high-value engineered/capital equipment products.
- Translate client requirements into practical, manufacturable engineering solutions.
- Ensure designs meet commercial, technical, and manufacturing objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement within the design and engineering function.
- Work closely with senior leadership to support strategic growth plans.
- Utilise 3D CAD software (Solidworks or similar) to review and guide design output.
Skills & Experience Required:
- Strong background in mechanical or product design within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
- Experience working on industrial or capital equipment projects.
- Previous leadership or team management experience.
- Proficiency in Solidworks or similar 3D CAD software.
- Ability to manage client relationships and technical discussions.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and design for manufacture principles.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related discipline (preferred).
