Job Title: Product Design Engineer
Location: York
Salary: £35,000 – £42,000 per annum
We are seeking an experienced Product Design Engineer to join an established engineering and manufacturing company based in York. This role is well suited to someone with a strong automotive or consumer product background who can take ownership of a product from concept through to production, considering both how it operates and how it looks.
Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop products from initial concept through to manufacture using SolidWorks.

Take a holistic approach to product design, considering functionality, usability, aesthetics, and performance.

Produce detailed 3D models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings.

Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and project teams to ensure designs are practical and cost-effective.

Support prototyping, testing, validation, and design refinement.

Manage design changes and maintain accurate technical documentation.

Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across product ranges.
Skills & Experience Required:

5–10 years’ experience as a Product Design Engineer.

Strong proficiency in SolidWorks.

Background in automotive, consumer products, or similar product-led industries.

Strong understanding of product functionality, user interaction, and aesthetics.

Experience designing products for manufacture and assembly.

Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Ability to manage projects independently and communicate effectively with stakeholders.

Relevant qualification in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, or similar.
